Isang Litrong Liwanag solar bottle bulb_by MIT students

Check out what landed in my mailbox yasterday through one of discussion groups on LinkedIn:

It's another simple way of reusing plastic bottles and turning them into solar bottle bulbs. The project is called Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light) and is addressing an important issue in the developing countries - lack of light. The project is designed and developed by the students of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (based on the method pioneered by Alfredo Moser) and is being implemented in thousands of homes in the Philippines through MyShelter Foundation.

It is a cheap alternative to the electric bulb and is made of plastic bottles, purified water and liquid bleach. If you want to check out how they are made, or make one yourself, click here for more details

Just love these simple, eco-friendly, community building projects that reusing what is considered to be waste (and is found in every home all around the globe) in a way that can change the lives of huge amounts of people.
